On New Year's Day, arguably the top two players in the NHL will face off in the 2011 Winter Classic.
Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby will clash in a highly anticipated match up between the top two teams in the Eastern conference when the Washington Capitals (22-12-5) and Pittsburgh Penguins (25-11-3) meet in Pennsylvania on Jan. 1.
Crosby, who's 25 straight games with a goal streak was snapped by the New York Islanders on Dec 29th, leads the NHL in goals, assists and points (32, 33, 65).
Ovechkin, the Capitals star, is having a disappointing year with only 14 goals, 28 assists and 42 points (25th, 5th and 6th) so far this season.
Nonetheless, their high expectations are always met when Crosby and Ovechkin lace their skates and step onto the ice.
The Eastern conference best with go toe-to-toe at 1 p.m. on New Year's Day on NBC.

Black "Retired" Mamba?
Kobe Bryant, the Black Mamba is inching closer to the end of his Hall of Fame caliber career.
"What the hell would I do," Bryant said in an Espn interview. Once Bryant retires he does not know what he will do with his free time, but in regards to the NBA, what will the Los Angeles Lakers do? How will they fill his shoes? Will they still be the best team in the NBA? These are questions that will arise, once Bryant decides to hang up his Nikes.
In the meantime, Bryant, who has five NBA championships and one Olympic Gold Medal, has done more than enough to support his case as the best player to ever play the game of basketball.
At age 32, Bryant is still one of the best in the NBA, averaging 25.9 points, 5.10 rebounds and 4.6 assists this season, and leading his team to a 21-8 start.
He is in pursuit of his sixth NBA championship (possible three-peat), which will put him in a tie with Michael Jordan, who most fans consider is the best player to ever play the game.

Four Philly Aces, No Kicker?
Unlike baseball, football may need a kicker to prevail a team to win a close game. All a baseball team need is a batter and a great swing, or a pitcher with clutch one, two, three strikeout pitches.
The Philadelphia Phillies have four aces going into Spring training for the upcoming 2011 Major League Baseball season. Roy Halladay (21-10), Cliff Lee (12-9), Roy Oswalt (13-13) and Cole Hamels (12-11) all had double digit wins last season, and will be in rotation for the Phillies in the 2011 season.
Many fans believe that with the return of Lee, the Phillies have the best pitching core and should be given the World Series trophy without having to play the long MLB season with the addition of playoff games. Great pitching will make any Major League team a World Series contender, but batting and defending is just as important to a team's success as pitching is.
Despite Phillies' aces, the departure of right fielder Jayson Werth, who is now a member of the Washington Nationals, has put a huge hole in the Phillies outfield and its hitting percentage. Werth's .298 BA, .388 OBP, 106 Rs and 85 RBIs from last season will be missed and needs to be filled immediately if the Phillies want to get back to the World series.

The Dirty Bird Homecoming
Fans and NFL analysts highly anticipate an epic potential NFC Championship match up between Michael Vick and the 9-4 Philadelphia Eagles v. the 11-2 (Best in the NFC) Atlanta Falcons, according to multiple sources.
With three games left in the regular season, it's likely that both teams will make the playoffs and only 120mins (two games) will be in the way of Vick leading his new flock into the Georgia Dome against the revamped Dirty Birds.The Eagles and Falcons are playing at a high level, so this match up is not far fetched.
Vick has thrown for 2,513 yards and 17 touchdowns with 4 interceptions (all in the last 3 games played) so far this season, but his efficiency as a pocket QB has greatly improved.
Matt Ryan, who took over the QB duties for Vick in 2008, has thrown for 3,147 yards and 22 touchdowns with 8 interceptions so far this season. Ryan is in his third year of filling up the big shoes that Vick left behind in Atlanta, but he has not yet gained the respect that he and his teammates deserve from other NFL teams despite their NFC best record at 11-2.
The Falcons have more motivation than ever to prove the league wrong, and with the outstanding play from Vick so far, it is hard to not pick these two teams to play for the right to say they are the best team in the NFC and for a chance to play in Superbowl XLV.

Garden of Melo??
Ever since LeBron took his talents to South Beach, all the talk has been about Carmelo Anthony. Will he be in Denver next year? Will he sign with another team during next summer's free agency? Will he be traded before this year's trading deadline? Well reports say that all signs point to departure from Denver. Yes, it is a high chance that Anthony will be suiting up in another NBA uniform very soon.
The New Jersey Nets have shown lots of interest in Anthony; who averages 23pts, 8rebs, and 3assts this season. The Nets seem to have a great package to send for Anthony (Derrick Favors, and some draft picks) that the Nuggets find very appealing, but Anthony has stated multiple times that he will not sign a 3 year extension with any team but the New York Knicks, according to multiple sources.
The Knicks, who signed Amar'e Stoudemire to a max contract this past summer, have other nice pieces to their puzzle that they could ship to Denver en route to landing Anthony. They have the option of sending a combination of two-of-the-three young stars in Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler and Landry Fields for Anthony. Many believe that the Madison Square Garden is where Anthony wants to be, but he claimed on Sunday before playing the Knicks that "his mind is not made up."
I personally believe Anthony wants and will be wearing No. 15 for the New York Knicks sometime before the 2010-2011 NBA season is over.
